There’s a stretch of Emilia-Romagna, between Bologna and Modena, where Ferrari, Lamborghini, Pagani, Maserati, and Ducati all have their factories within an hour of each other. The locals call it Motor Valley, and once you’ve been, you’ll understand why the name stuck. This trip spends a full week there, with a night in Burgundy each way to keep the drive from the UK civilised.
You’ll visit the Museo Ferrari in Maranello — the town that runs on the Prancing Horse — and the Museo Casa Enzo Ferrari in Modena, where the founder was born. The Lamborghini Museum in Sant’Agata Bolognese. The Pagani factory tour, if you can get it, where every Huayra is assembled by hand. The Ducati Museum in Bologna. Each one could justify a trip on its own. Strung together across a week, with the food of Emilia-Romagna in between — Parmigiano, prosciutto, tortellini, balsamic vinegar — it’s almost too much. Almost.
There’s a free day built in towards the end for the things you want to go back to, or the places you haven’t found yet. A Parmigiano dairy, the Imola circuit, a drive into the Apennine foothills. Then it’s north over the Alps, a final night in Burgundy, and home. If you’ve ever dreamed of standing in a room full of red cars in the town where they were built, this is the trip.

The Itinerary
Day 1
Eurotunnel & Drive to Burgundy
Channel crossing and drive south through France to Burgundy. Overnight in the Beaune or Dijon area — wine country warmth before heading into Italy tomorrow.
Day 2
Burgundy to Emilia-Romagna
Drive south over the Alps and into Emilia-Romagna — Italy’s Motor Valley. The region that gave the world Ferrari, Lamborghini, Maserati, Pagani, and Ducati. Check in to your hotel in Modena or Bologna.
Day 3
Modena & Museo Enzo Ferrari
Visit the Museo Enzo Ferrari in Modena — a striking yellow aluminium building housing the story of the man behind the brand. Explore Modena’s beautiful old town and visit local balsamic vinegar producers in the surrounding countryside.
Day 4
Ferrari Day
The pilgrimage. Visit the Museo Ferrari in Maranello — the official Ferrari museum with rotating exhibitions of road and racing cars. Lunch in the town where every other car on the street wears a prancing horse.
Day 5
Lamborghini & Pagani
Morning at the Lamborghini Museum in Sant’Agata Bolognese — Miura, Countach, Aventador, all under one roof. Afternoon Pagani factory tour (pre-booked) to see hypercars being hand-built one at a time.
Day 6
Ducati & Bologna
Visit the Ducati Museum in Borgo Panigale — motorcycling heritage from the 1940s to MotoGP. Afternoon options include climbing Bologna’s Two Towers for city views or visiting the Imola Autodromo circuit.
Day 7
Free Day in Motor Valley
A free day in Motor Valley. Revisit a favourite museum, drive into the Apennine hills on quiet mountain roads, or visit a Parmigiano-Reggiano dairy to see the King of Cheeses being made.
Day 8
Emilia-Romagna to Burgundy
Drive north over the Alps back to Burgundy. One last stop in Parma for prosciutto before leaving Italy behind. Final overnight in French wine country.
Day 9
Burgundy to Home
