Munich does something clever — it puts world-class car culture and serious mountain roads within an hour of each other. You’ll start with an overnight in Strasbourg to break the drive from the UK, then it’s an easy morning run down the autobahn to Munich. BMW Welt is free to enter and genuinely spectacular — the architecture alone is worth the visit, and the collection inside covers everything from the Isetta to the latest M cars. The BMW Museum next door goes deeper, tracing the brand’s story from aeroplane engines through to the cars that defined each decade.
After a couple of days in the city, the trip heads south into the Bavarian Alps. The roads here change completely — mountain passes, valley sweepers, hairpins with views of snow-capped peaks. The Rossfeld Panoramastrasse gives you 360-degree Alpine views from the driver’s seat. You can cross into Austria for the roads around Innsbruck or stay on the German side and follow the Alpine Road east. Either way, the driving is extraordinary. Then it’s back to Strasbourg for a final evening in Alsace before the Eurotunnel home. Seven days that cover everything from BMW’s history to some of the best mountain roads in Europe.

Day by Day
The Itinerary
Day 1
Eurotunnel & Drive to Strasbourg
Eurotunnel crossing and drive through France into Alsace. Check in to your hotel near Strasbourg’s Petite France quarter — half-timbered houses and canal-side restaurants for your first evening.
Day 2
Strasbourg to Munich
Drive east to Munich. Visit BMW Welt — a stunning free exhibition of BMW’s latest and concept cars, open until 6pm. Evening at Marienplatz to see the Glockenspiel, then traditional Bavarian beer halls.
Day 3
BMW Museum & City
Morning at the BMW Museum — a deep dive into BMW’s engineering heritage from the 1920s to today. Afternoon at the Viktualienmarkt food market and a stroll through the English Garden.
Day 4
Munich to the Alps
Leave Munich for the Alps. Drive to Garmisch-Partenkirchen via mountain roads, cross into Austria and return via the Rossfeld Panoramastrasse — a stunning Alpine road with views across to the Berchtesgaden Alps. Check in to your mountain hotel.
Day 5
Alpine Driving Day
A full day of Alpine driving. Follow sections of the German Alpine Road or explore roads around the Austrian border. Stop for lunch at a mountain inn with panoramic views, then continue on routes tailored to your driving appetite.
Day 6
Bavaria to Strasbourg
Leave Bavaria behind and drive west on the autobahn back to Strasbourg. One final Alsace evening — tarte flambée and local wine in a candlelit winstub.
Day 7
Strasbourg to Home
Morning drive north to Calais for your Eurotunnel crossing home. Arrive back in the UK by afternoon.
