There’s a moment — usually on the approach to the Karussell — where you realise you’re actually driving the Nordschleife. Not watching it on YouTube, not playing it on a simulator, but actually threading your car through 20.8 kilometres of the most famous tarmac on earth. That’s what this trip is about. Three nights based right at the circuit, with your hotel overlooking the track and the option to take your car out during tourist driving sessions.

When you’re not on the Nordschleife, the Eifel Mountains surrounding the Ring are full of quiet, winding roads that barely see any traffic. They’re the roads the locals use, the ones that don’t appear on any ‘best driving roads’ list, and they’re brilliant. Tight corners, forest canopy, little villages with half-timbered houses and a cafe that does a perfect Apfelstrudel. The trip is close enough to the UK that you can be on the Eurotunnel in the morning and at the circuit by the afternoon, so you don’t lose any time getting there. Four days, three nights, and as many laps as your nerves and your tyres will allow.
